Today I’m sharing an easy and cheap project that is a great way to keep track of upcoming workouts and to quickly reflect on how the workouts went. Early spring is when a lot of people, including myself, get geared up for “race season” with 5k, 10k, and half marathons on the horizon. I personally love training for races because I’m most consistent with my workouts when I have a plan in place. This weekly calendar is a great place to write down my upcoming workouts to make sure I’m sticking to my plan. And even if you are not training for a race or event, I think a calendar would still be beneficial. Just by taking a few minutes at the beginning of every week to think about what type of workouts you want to do and writing them down will make you more likely to follow through.
I designed a printable that has an area to write workouts for any day of the week, a check box to say if it was completed or not (accountability!), and a chart to mark how the workout went. It is nice to reflect a little on how you felt during the workout, because everyone has good days and bad days at the gym. And at the end of the week you might see a pattern on what workouts went awesome and which were only so-so; maybe you will realize that extra big lunch or staying up late is really affecting the outcome at the gym.
Here is a peek at the printable, the free download is at the end of the post.
Ok, so on to the project instructions.
Start by downloading and printing the calendar, next grab an 8×10 frame. I found this nothing-fancy frame at the dollar store and it totally does the trick and you can’t beat $1! Just make sure the frame has a glass pane.
Cut the printable out following the gray line so that it fits in an 8×10 frame and just place it in the frame like you would a photo. Now you just need a dry-erase marker and you’re in business! I told you, easy and cheap!
I placed my workout dry erase calendar in my walk-in closet, which I think is the perfect place for me. I walk in the closet every single day and it’s a private room where guests won’t see it. Plus, if I’m getting dressed and my jeans are a little extra tight I’ll have my workout calendar staring me right in the face as a reminder of my fitness goals. If you don’t have a closet that would work, maybe an on-suite bathroom or your office would be a good option. Or if you want guests to see your workout schedule and that you’ve been rocking it, then by all means…hang it for everyone to see! I would just recommend that you put it somewhere that is convenient and that you see every day.
Something else to mention is that I would highly recommend keeping the dry-erase marker next to the calendar. I can almost guarantee that if you have to walk into a different room or dig in a junk drawer to find the marker you will not use this calendar, because that is just not convenient or functional.
I happened to have a Command clip that is supposed to be used to contain cords, but my dry-erase marker fit perfectly in it. Another option would be to get a Command hook, and tie a string from the hook to the marker.
Here is my finished calendar and marker holder!
